Boortz reflects on the life and legacy of Atlanta media pioneer Ted Turner, sharing personal stories from their decades-long friendship. From Turner’s early Superstation days to the launch of CNN, Boortz gives a behind-the-scenes look at the larger-than-life businessman who helped shape Atlanta media and sports forever.
Donna and I were eating at Ted’s Montana Grill near Piedmont Hospital on Peachtree. I don’t think it’s there anymore. Our table was kind of hidden in the back. He walked right up, sat down, and we had the most engaging conversation with him for the duration of the lunch. But he did not pick up the check. That’s Ted Turner. And God bless you, Ted, for your stewardship of the Atlanta Braves. An Atlanta icon, an Atlanta character, and he will be missed.
