Now that was impressive! Georgia Bulldog fans packed the house for a “practice.” Kirby Smart issued a challenge to the fans and the Bulldog Nation responded. Call it the perfect storm. Coach Smart has energized the program, leading into his first season. Fans are excited. And the media is all over it, of course!
The big attraction of G-Day was the coming out party of highly-publicized freshman quarterback Jacob Eason. Dude stepped out and delivered an impressive performance. Looked like he was in control of the huddle and he was “spinning it.”
Eason looks strong and confident in the pocket. When he steps into the throw, the ball is thrown accurately and with zip. He’s able to fit the ball into tight spaces, but I was impressed with his touch and placement on the deep throws. Also, I liked his comfort throwing the underneath, check-down stuff too. He can certrainly make all the throws.
Was it perfect? No. Blitz got to him quickly a couple of times. When the protection & pocket break down, he’s in trouble. Jacob will need to clean up some issues this summer. He’s got to speed the process up. Recognize and anticipate faster. Set up quicker. Get the ball out quicker. He can rep it this summer and will have almost 30 practices to go through in camp, prior to the season.
Jacob Eason is obviously the future at quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs. And that’s exciting! Will he start against UNC? The bet here says he plays… and if he plays well (takes the ‘Dogs on a TD drive/helps them win), I believe the job will be his.
Kirby Smart gets it! He’s got UGA out front with a few other top programs, as it relates to marketing the spring football game into a big event. What’s the motivation? Well, that’s pretty obvious… it is all about recruiting! The priority: securing the services of the south’s top-rated high school players. This event helps UGA sell itself! Bet those recruits left Athens impressed.
Stay tuned…Kirby Smart has the Bulldogs on the move up! More to come.
