FALCONS EVEN BETTER AFTER A LOSS
If you have listened to me over the years, you know I do not believe in moral victories. If I ever was going to even consider one, last Sunday in Seattle might sway my opinion. If I take into consideration everything that the team displayed under duress, I find myself more impressed today than I was last week.
I know, that is a lot of ifs. I also know what I saw with my own two eyes. Crushed in the first half it would have been predictable for a team to sleep walk to a loss. That has happened in the past but the exact opposite occurred. This team played with a ferocity of efficiency we haven’t seen before. The third quarter on Sunday was the best I have ever seen Matt Ryan play. He was poised, confident and led his team to a 21-0 quarter that has never happened before under Pete Carroll in Seattle.
The Falcons have teased you in the past. I am not thinking this is a tease at all. At 4-w Atlanta is a legitimate threat in the NFC. There is a long way to go, but I don’t see any warning signs to suggest a repeat of the collapse of 2015. Great job by everyone around the Falcons on surviving and thriving in the hardest part of the schedule.
KIRBY UNDER FIRE
I consider myself a Kirby Smart supporter, but I won’t be an apologist. His first year as a Head Coach is teetering on disastrous. He is being asked to play with a short deck of talent, but he is not getting the most out of what he has to play with.
Vanderbilt lost by 31 to Georgia Tech. The Dawgs could not beat them at home. Celebrating your defense “shutting down” Vandy on offense truly rings hollow. They are an SEC bottom feeder and they ruined Homecoming for you. The lackluster wins that preceded this debacle should have been a warning sign. I’m sorry I missed it.
It takes time to build a championship program. It requires buy in from the fan base to succeed. This has not been the way to garner such support.
