I have never tried to fool my listening audience on the local or national level. I never felt the need to try and fit in by “pretending” that the local teams here shared the passion I had felt for those of my youth. I have always been thrilled to see them succeed. One, because I am selfish and know it creates greater passion for our product. Two, because it makes the job so much easier.
I’m letting you know, for the next week I’m rising up with you. I’m probably not welcome on the bandwagon but will be fine riding beside it in an Uber. This is your week, your time, your fun. I’m just honored to be a part of it.
So, accept that this Eagles fan is hoping your team “rises up” Sunday! I know, I picked them to go 7-9 back in August but if you are honest you know you never expected a Super Bowl berth either. It was after the Denver and Seattle games that I started to believe. Then in December I told you on air how if it was a 2 win scenario I absolutely thought they could go to the Super Bowl. Congrats! They delivered!
I want this for Arthur Blank. He has since day one done everything he THOUGHT would get this city a championship. He made a lot of mistakes along the way, but none of them were made cutting corners or cheating his fan base. I want this for a Thomas Dimitroff. He has always been a class act and certainly has a speckled resume. I love the redemption story and he has certainly helped deliver this team to you. Rich McKay certainly has put the sweat equity in that I will be rooting for him as well.
I’ll be thinking of the many former Falcons and guys like Finneran and Reeves who would love to share in this moment. I might even smile for Buck and JChad who want this so bad they can taste it.
I had them beating the Seahawks easily in the Divisional Round. They did it. I expected a tougher fight from Green Bay but called a Falcons victory. They did it.
I’ll save the analysis for the air this week, but I want you to know I’m rooting for you. I’m especially rooting for the fans that have shared their Falcons passion for the 3,88o editions and counting if “Buck and Kincade”.
Atlanta earned this trip. They are sixty minutes from deserving a title. I hope that I see all of your excitement spill out in the coming week!
