Independence Day here in Atlanta just got even more exciting! We will once again get to see top American distance runners battle it out for a championship title on our roads.

While the AJC Peachtree Road Race draws running talent from around the world every year, the USA 10K Championships are returning to Atlanta in 2017. Elite runners from across the country will be competing for the title and prize money on the same course as the 60,000 Peachtree participants of the world’s largest 10K.

It’s not the first time Peachtree has brought this contest to Atlanta: This will be the sixth time the AJC Peachtree Road Race has hosted the men’s USA 10K Championships and the third time to host the women’s race. Both championships were most recently held here in 2013 and 2014.
Why is this exciting? Running is the only sport where you can participate at the same time as the professionals. Your favorite pro team probably wouldn’t want you to show up on their field or court while they’re playing, but it’s different in running. At Peachtree, we welcome all abilities – from elite runners to those just taking their first steps towards fitness.

So how can you get in on the fun? Enter the lottery for the AJC Peachtree Road Race in March. Lottery registration will be open between March 15-22 at AJC.com/peachtree, and we will announce those selected to participate by March 25.

Not only can you run with the pro athletes – you can train with them, too! Atlanta Track Club’s In-Training for Peachtree program will be held at seven Big Peach Running Co. locations from April to July. Atlanta Track Club Elite athletes will be at each location and will also be toeing the line with you July 4th.  I may not be able to be at each location each week, but my athletes will be. We’d love to spend the holiday with you!
